On October 4, 2021, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) issued a new standard IEC 60884-3-1: 2021 "Plugs and sockets for household and similar purposes-Part 3-1: Special requirements for sockets with USB power supply ".
New standard coverage:
The IEC 60884-3-1 standard applies to fixed or portable sockets with AC input and meets the following conditions: with or without grounding contacts, rated voltage greater than 50V but not more than 440V, rated current not exceeding 32A, used for household and Similar use, indoor or outdoor, including USB power supply.
This standard specifies the safety and EMC requirements for sockets that include USB power supply.
The standard does not include the specifications, performance and size requirements of USB technology; these requirements have been specified in the relevant parts of the IEC 62680 standard.
The content of the new standard focuses on:
? Add 101 clause exception conditions;
? Added special requirements for the USB power supply circuit in Clause 102;
? Added appendix AA (informative appendix) for the safety-related routine test of electric strength test control-electric strength test of USB power supply.
